Fall is a weird season. It’s the start of the school year and the end of the harvest; the first hints of the holidays juxtaposed with fading daylight; savory warming spices made sweet in a million pumpkin products. Autumn is beautiful and lovely and pleasant, but that doesn’t mean you couldn’t use a little something to keep your energy up given the long road ahead of us—professionally, emotionally, spiritually.
And I kept this in mind when building this playlist. I wanted to share songs that were equal parts energizing and comforting, rhythmic and ethereal, dissonant and cozy.
So whip up your favorite mulled drink (if you’re like me, pumpkin spice is optional), do some stretches, and get comfortable but not too comfortable. There’s a long fall road ahead of us now, and we’ve gotta balance the light and dark for many more months to come.

“Age of Consent (New Order)” by Cayetana: Despite the original song’s cringy title, I’ve always loved it. And this cover captures that same energy and somehow makes it even cozier.
“you deserve attention” by Field Medic: There’s a certain earnestness to this song even though if you listen to the lyrics it’s about being emotionally unavailable.
“Get Up” by The Blow: I love this band and have for a few years because they have a way of being both childlike and ripe for a remix all at once.
